Planet Matters GmbH (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use our mobile app Planet Matters “app”, website, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of information:

  • Personal Information: Information that identifies you as an individual, such as your name, email address, phone number, and account information.
  • Location Data: Information about your location when you use the Service, including GPS data.
  • Photos: Images you upload to verify your litter collection activities.
  • Usage Data: Information about how you interact with the Service, including the features you use, the time spent on the Service, and your interactions with other users.
  • Technical Data: Information about the device you use to access the Service, such as your IP address, browser type, and operating system.
  • Survey Participation Data (via CPX Research): If you choose to take part in optional, paid surveys shown inside our app (via https://www.cpx-research.com/), we may collect or transmit limited data to enable eligibility checks, fraud prevention and reward attribution. This may include a pseudonymous user ID, approximate location/country, language, basic demographic info you choose to share (e.g., age range, gender), and device/technical signals (e.g., IP address, user agent, device identifiers) required to deliver the surveys and prevent abuse. Your survey answers are provided directly to CPX Research/its research partners and are processed under their privacy terms.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
  • Verify your litter collection activities and reward you with points.
  • Communicate with you, including sending you updates, alerts, and promotional materials.
  • Report to business partners on reward redemption.
  • Personalize your experience and tailor content and offers to your interests.
  • Ensure the security and integrity of the Service.
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect our legal rights.
  • To present third-party surveys and attribute rewards (via CPX Research), including eligibility checks and fraud prevention.
  • To resolve support issues related to survey completions and payouts.

 

We process personal data under Art. 6 GDPR as follows:

  • Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)): provide core App features, verify cleanup activities, attribute rewards/points, handle survey completion/reward attribution.
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): non-essential cookies/SDKs, certain personalization/marketing, and any optional analytics. You may withdraw consent at any time in settings or device/browser controls.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): service security, fraud prevention, debugging, and limited direct marketing to existing users (with opt-out).
  • Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)): accounting, tax, and compliance duties.

3. Sharing Your Information

We may share your information with:

  • Service Providers: Third-party vendors who perform services on our behalf, such as data storage, analytics, payment processing, and customer support.
  • Business Partners: Companies that offer rewards or promotions through the Service.
  • Law Enforcement and Legal Authorities: When required by law or in response to legal process, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
  • Other Users: Certain information, such as your username, photos, stats, and recent activity, may be visible to other users of the Planet Matters App.
  • Survey Provider (Independent Controller). If you participate in surveys, certain data is shared with CPX Research (Make Opinion GmbH, Elfenallee 5, 13127 Berlin, Germany) to deliver surveys, run eligibility/anti-fraud checks, and attribute rewards. Your survey responses are collected and processed by CPX Research and/or its research clients as independent controllers under their own privacy terms (see CPX Imprint/Privacy). Planet Matters is controller for showing surveys and reward attribution.

4. Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. However, no security system is impenetrable, and we cannot guarantee the security of your data.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by law. If you close your account, we may retain certain information for a limited period for backup, archival, and audit purposes.

6. Your Choices

You may update, correct, or delete your account information at any time by accessing your account settings in the App. You may also request the deletion of your account by contacting us at contact@planetmatters.net. Please note that certain information may be retained as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.

7. User-Generated Content, Photos, and Stats

As part of the Service, you may submit photos and statistics of your cleanup activities (e.g., the amount of trash collected, locations, and times). By uploading photos and stats, you consent to this content being visible to other users within the Planet Matters app. Your cleanup activities and their associated metrics may be displayed publicly on leaderboards, team pages, or event summaries, allowing other users to see and engage with your environmental contributions.

8. Children's Privacy

The Planet Matters app is not intended for individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18. If we become aware that a person under 18 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information.

9. International Data Transfers

We are based in the EU (Austria). Some service providers or survey partners may process data outside the EEA/UK. Where such transfers occur, we rely on an adequacy decision or on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and, where appropriate, implement supplementary safeguards. We do not rely on your consent as the legal basis for such transfers.

10. Your Rights

Under GDPR/DSGVO and Austrian law, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection(including to direct marketing), data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior lawful processing).

11. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to collect information about your use of the Service and to enhance your experience. Non-essential cookies/SDKs (including those used in embedded third-party modules such as CPX surveys for fraud prevention/attribution where not strictly necessary) are used only with your consent via our consent banner. You can control the use of cookies through your browser settings. However, disabling cookies may limit your ability to use certain features of the Service.

The Service may contain links to third-party websites and services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these third-party sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of these third parties before providing them with your information.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy and, if required by law, by providing you with additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
